The Code is published every two years now and becomes mandatory after six months of its publication (For example ASME SEC VIII DIV I published on Jbecomes mandatory from Jan 1, 2018). The use of engineering judgment should not be used to overrule the mandatory requirements of this code. This code is not a handbook and cannot replace education, experience, and use of engineering judgment. This Code contains compulsory requirements, specific prohibitions, and non-mandatory guidance for pressure vessel materials, design, fabrication, examination, inspection, testing, and certification, and pressure relief. These code cases will be incorporated into the preceding editions (Say for example those code cases which are adopted after 2017 edition up to 2019 will be reflected in 2019 edition). This code is a part of ASME BPVC Codes ( Click here to learn about the various codes published by ASME).Ĭode Cases are published regularly by the BPVC committee to consider proposed additions and revisions to the code and to formulate cases to clarify the intent of existing requirements when the need is urgent.
#ASME SECTION 8 PDF PLUS#
Intended for manufacturers, users, constructors, designers and others concerned with the design, fabrication, assembly, erection, examination, inspection and testing of pressure vessels, plus all potential governing entities.ASME SEC VIII DIV I deals with the rules for the construction of pressure vessels. Rules pertaining to the use of the U2 and UV ASME Product Certification Marks are also included.Ĭareful application of this Section will help users to comply with applicable regulations within their jurisdictions, while achieving the operational, cost and safety benefits to be gained from the many industry best-practices detailed within these volumes.

These rules may also apply to human occupancy pressure vessels typically in the diving industry.

Division 2 rules cover only vessels to be installed in a fixed location for a specific service where operation and maintenance control is retained during the useful life of the vessel by the user who prepares or causes to be prepared the design specifications. In comparison the Division 1, Division 2 requirements on materials, design, and nondestructive examination are more rigorous however, higher design stress intensify values are permitted. These rules provide an alternative to the minimum requirements for pressure vessels under Division 1 rules. This pressure may be obtained from an external source or by the application of heat from a direct or indirect source, or any combination thereof. This Division of Section VIII provides requirements applicable to the design, fabrication, inspection, testing, and certification of pressure vessels operating at either internal or external pressures exceeding 15 psig.
